Marco Viceconti is a Professor of Biomechanics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Executive Director of INSIGNEO. His main research interests are related to the development and validation of medical technology, especially that involving simulation, primarily in relation to musculoskeletal diseases. He is world leader in multi-scale biomechanical modelling of the musculoskeletal system. He coordinated the largest European project on multi-scale modelling of the skeleton (VPHOP). In the last 10 years Professor Viceconti has received over €8M through European and industrial research grants all related to the musculoskeletal system.
Professor Viceconti is also the Work Package Leader of WP3. Cell Model and a member of Work Package 2. Body Model, Work Package 4. Tissue Modelling, Work Package 6. Non-Linear Complex Systems, Work Package 7. Animal Study, Work Package 8. Clinical Study and Work Package 9. Hypermodelling Integration and Framework Development.
